Tanuki - A safe, local only AI productivity helper
===================================================

Tanuki is the oposite of OpenClaw, we believe Machine Learning is powerful, but it should run in a very constrained context. Tanuki is a tool for people who want the benefits of machine learning without understanding how it works, and without any risk. We use local models run through MLX for super responsive inference. We have crafted a pipeline model, where users pass in documents, text or audio, that input then is processed by a workflow that includes multiple configurable steps. This allows complex actions to occur against the input.

For real time work there is an editor page where people can craft documents, a chat panel allows deep questions like ‘two years ago we talked about what colour my characters car was, what options have we come up with’.

The app is equiped with 2 inference slots, fast and deep, steps in workflows that require machine learning tasks can choose the appropriate slot. This allows larger complex thinking tasks to be handled by a larger, slower model, while most simple requests happen in a very performant light weight alternatives. It's up to you which models sit in which slots. We have some recommendations in our help site.

Further, the workflows and the context for each ML step are runtime editable. A user can create new workflows and steps right inside Tanuki and have custom processing happening in minutes.

This is a useful tool for anyone who needs to create structured documents from unstructured work. Lawyers can use this as a transcriber. People who work on machine floors who need to summarise the days work can speak into the application or forward/drag in their .

Further, we have a subscription that enables a HTTPS interface with an optional OIDC connection. This feature allows local network usage (a data centre appliance is available but not via app store). There is an operational swagger interface to allow engineering against, this is presented in the application itself when enabled.

We are committed to improving Tanuki and its coming sister applications that meet needs in other niches. Tanuki App is the general consumer and small business app, Tanuki Cyber Workbench and Tanuki Prompt Engineer will round out the platform late in 2026.

About the Developer
Hypermedia Tech is a platform engineering company that thinks Apple Silicon is future of desktop computing. So now we build quality apps for modern Apple machines, taking advantage of local machine learning capabiliities while designing for scale.

We beleive your machine is yours and you shouldn't have to give your valuable data to us, or some inference provider.
